Larry W. Nelson, M.D.

Larry W. Nelson, M. D. is a native of Louisville Kentucky and a diehard University of Louisville Cardinals fan. In fact he still thinks Denny Crum was a better coach than Dean Smith. Dr. Nelson was one of the founders of Carolina Psychiatric Services and has been a partner since 1983.
A sports fan of epic proportions, bad knees, poor eyesight, lack of co-ordination and almost no athletic ability kept Dr. Nelson from pursuing a career as a professional athlete and led him to the practice of medicine.

In a psychiatric career spanning four decades he is widely known for his concern and care of patients. He often saw patients that others would not, such as those afflicted with Dissociative Identity Disorder, but never complained.
Dr. Nelson will be officially retiring from practice on June 30, 2016. He is moving out of state and plans to spend most of his time playing golf. He will be sorely missed by his patients, friends, colleagues and partners.
