Shannon T. Wilson, PMHNP-BC
Mrs. Wilson has lived in Columbia, SC for much of her life. Her father, a beloved pediatrician, is now retired, but her mother is also on the clinical staff of Carolina Psychiatric Services, P.A.
Mrs. Wilson received an undergraduate degree in Human and Organizational Development from Vanderbilt University. She also received a Master’s degree in Child, Adolescent and Family Psychiatric Nursing from Vanderbilt University. She is a board certified Nurse Practitioner and has prescriptive authority in South Carolina. Prior to joining Carolina Psychiatric Services, P.A. in 2002 Mrs. Wilson worked in Nashville, Tennessee at Cornerstone Community Mental Health Center and Middle Tennessee Mental Health Institute.
In private practice for fourteen years, Mrs. Wilson has worked with hundreds of individuals, children, couples and families. She is certified as a Cognitive Behavioral Therapist, but employs a variety of techniques and theories in assisting clients in the attainment of their personal goals. Her specialty is working with children and adolescents (even the middle-aged ones). She regards her work as a source of joy and pleasure and enjoys watching her clients grow and change through hard work over time.
When not in the office, which seems too frequent to the rest of the staff, Mrs. Wilson enjoys spending time with her husband, their two children, her two rambunctious dogs and the rest of her large, wild extended family. She loves boating on Lake Murray, exercising and traveling to new places. Her “happy place” is St. John (U.S. Virgin Islands) with her family by her side.
